H4 Weapons versus Vehicles

Sun Nov 25, 2012 9:38 am

Just a quick post about the new weapons and how much damage they do against vehicles, in this case, the Warthog.

Please read closely because our options have changed...

For those that have seen our DMR vs. the BR vid you know that the BR is the most effective gun to use...
Spoiler: show
well, it WAS. As of right now the guns have been made equals so the BR and the DMR now destroy the hog equally. Its actually a good thing for us. The BR has been "nerfed" so that it now takes 58 trigger pulls from both of them to destroy a hog. Thanks to Yozi for pointing this out!

Next up is the Covenant and Promethean weapons.

UNSC Weapons:

Turrets, grenades, and other vehicles have all been tested but are not included just yet. Its important to remember that this list only reflects damage output as seen... MEANING, that it doesn't reflect kill times, personal preference, where you are shooting the warthog at (tires, bumper, side, front etc) and how many spartans are in the vehicle. A lot can change on the battle field

Here is the breakdown of weapons:
Covie:
Gravity Hammer: 2 swings
Fuel Rod Gun: 4 shots
Sword: 8 swings
Beam Rifle: 19 shots
Concussion Rifle 19 shots (3 clips+1shot)
Carbine: 11 clips + 4 shots
Storm Rifle: 175% ? (1.75 "clips" aka guns)
Plasma Pistol: LoL

Promethean:
Incineration Cannon: 1-2 shots depending on where you hit the hog
Binary Rifle: 4 shots
Suppressor: 6.66 clips
Scattershot: 7 clips + 3 shots
Boltshot: 14 Overcharges
LightRifle: 7 clips + 2 rounds (when scoped in)
LightRifle:11 clips + 6 rounds (from the hip)

UNSC:
Laser: 1 shot (though you can hit a wheel or turret and have the hog survive
Rockets 2 shots
Rail Gun: 3 or 4 shots (if you hit a wheel or turret)
Sticky Detonator: 3 sticks
Sniper: 7 shots
SAW: just under 2 clips
DMR/BR: 58 "shots"
AR: 9.5 clips (default is 3 clips)
Pistol: 19.5 clips

Frankly I'm surprised to see the sniper does the same damage. It's always felt to me like the hogs in 4 are more resistant to snipers then from Reach. However because the Halo 4 hog can regenerate faster and better then the Reach hog, maybe I'm just reacting to how a single shot or two can do a lot more to a Reach hog when it's already damaged.

Good to know though. Frankly a clip and a half isn't a lot if it means taking out a deadly hog.

I have the habit of putting at least one sniper round in the enemy hog. Get it down faster/sooner.
It's probably because I don't snipe well enough to pick people off effectively.

Does having more occupants in the hog help to increase it's survivability?

Also I'm interested in learning the time needed before the hogs "shields" recharge allowing it to take sniper shots without taking any long term damage. What I learnt in Halo Reach was that the shields of occupants within the hog tie into the hogs health it's self. So for instance if I took a direct sniper shot that made me no shields the hog would take more damage from a sniper shot to the engine block compared to if I was full shields with a sniper shot to the engine block.

It's quite a complicated system but once you start learning some of the science behind it you can use it to keep a hog up for a relativity long time. On maps like Tempest in Reach I learnt the exact number of shots needed before my hog would start hurting or suffer long term damage that could not be recovered.

So three enemy players with DMR's is a lot of shots per second so you don't want to engage that. Nerdin it up.

Having a spartan in the Hog really helps it last longer but the difference between 2 and 3 is minimal (If I remember correct) but I plan on doing a vid on THAT as well. We had a "testing session" last week where we just killed each other again and again but I was able to glean some information and when I get the chance I'll upload the results. BK, if you'd like to work on it feel free!

I'll love to work on it but in the middle of exam period but once that's over I'll be more active on the guides/strat front.

Good insights, though i haven't had the misfortune of encountering such a hog heavy resistance yet im mm. Perhaps, these tips will when that "what if scenario becomes reality" help my team thrive.
