Elite Slayer anyone?

Fri Oct 15, 2010 8:46 am

First off, i need to explain my complete and utter hatred of elites. I wasn't one of the people in H3 who hated them because "headshots didnt count" i got over that quite quickly.
I hated them because they looked so stupid and annoying. I couldn't take anyone seriously if they were an elite.

My view hasn't entirely changed on elites, and i certainly wouldn't choose to be one. But they do look better in reach, and they do add something different.

On this note, i'd like to express my enjoyment of the Elite Slayer gametype. I have only played it on Haemorrhage, so couldn't give an opinion on smaller maps. But i love it so much.

Why?
Because it is just pure unadulterated fun. Mainly i think because there are no OP vehicles/weapons. That leaves the playing field very open.
When i first starting playing H3, covies was a big feature in BTB. I was extremely bad back then, and played the game just because it was fun. No trying hard to win, just having fun doing weird stuff.

I think this is what Elite slayer brings back. There are like 10 ghosts on the maps, 2 revenants and 1 wraith.

Team of ghosts beats everything. Revenant beats ghost, wraith beats revenant. It just seems equal.
Instead of a sniper, you get a beam-thingy. Which is powerful enough to be classed as a power weapon, but not over-the-top like the sniper is.

And to balance out the fact that there are now so many vehicles, everyone spawns with a PP. Although i think that might be a little over the top. I'd rather one of the classes was secondry PP, so not everyone had it. But it's not too bad.

I know there is no warthog, but what do you guys think?

Spawning with Needle Rifle = win.

I thought I was the only one who loved this gametype. Armour Lock is amazing on Blood Gulch, and you can actually use the banshee on Paradiso because of no sniper.
Everything actually seems more balanced.

I, love, Elite Slayer. The best is on The Cage though, because it's so small.

I find this amusing, as BK is an diehard dino. My, the irony. ::collab::

Which is precisely why i think he's stupid and annoying, and should not be taken seriously. ::panic::

I think it's awesome because it's almost like an action game. I'm not sure how exactly, but it is. Silly headshot competitions seem to take a sideline to ROLL PUNCH JUMP STICK JETPACK and so on.

And have you ever played elite slayer on hemhorrage? 5 ghosts, a revenant, and a wraith each is absolutely mental when everyone has a plasma pistol... and you have the rather interesting option of sacrificing range for foiling potential splatters in potentially the most hilarious way known to videogames.

Elite (team) Slayer on Asylum is my favorite gametype. Evade is especially useful on smaller maps for avoiding nades or finding cover, not to mention turning the sword into an extreme[ly] power[ful] weapon (slice n' dice first time picking up a sword on Zealot :D ). One thing that I don't like about ES is that the needle rifle loadout has a PP secondary, mostly because I'm butthurt from a game where the entire enemy team was using the "n00b combo" on me.

I haven't played BTB Elite Slayer yet, but I can imagine how difficult it would be to run any vehicles with all of the PPs out there. Is there a drop shield loadout?

Elite Slayer is excellent.

I think a big part of it is that a lot of people share your thoughts on Elites Jonesy (I know I always thought they were silly). Since they don't take the player models or half the weapons and abilities seriously, they just don't take themselves as seriously and focus on having a good time.

I personally love the Saboteur class (Armor Lock + Needler). The Needler isn't amazing, but against so many super-combine weapons and plasma grenades the armor lock AA shines more than at any other time (I usually pick Sprint in Spartan gametypes). Throw in the fact that all covie vehicles have always been better for splatters than human vehicles and armor lock is the best thing I can request. Typically the first thing I do is murder a Needle Rifle-using enemy and snag their rifle.

I like the increased movement speeds and jump heights. Allows strafing to be more significant and besides the needle rifle is awesome.

Good gametype on this map.

Lame gametype is lame. Although I like going for the most EMP medals in the game.

I hate it only because it ruins my average Wheelmen Per Game count when it comes up and everybody votes for it. IMO it should have it's own playlist. Even if they did, they'd keep it in BTB *coughSWATcough*.

It can be fun though, I like it on Countdown even though I hate that map. It's just so CQB oriented which means lots of sticks and superdetonations.

I actually do agree with you, they should put Elite Slayer in it's own playlist along with adding SvE.

Sidenote:
WTF happened to SvE and Generator Defense?

Both intended just to test the game, especially SvE(Elites literally had no disadvantages and were much stronger, just bungie's wasy of trying to figure out how different they are).

I thought Generator defense would eb returning in the form of firefight vs...? It was ridiculously fun though. As for SvE it seems to me that in invasion the massive elites are nearly always worse off. Even the AR seems to be powerful against them.
