I really like the way the fog of war area looks like a drawn map and then animates as it comes into view.

Alright, caught up on all the videos and am officially pumped. The last Civ I seriously played was Civ III so it'll be good to dive into a "modern" one.

Having the same issue as Sarge in that I definitely don't have a computer that can handle this, but am looking into getting one for the sole purpose of playing Civ VI.
I buy books like some people buy shoes.

In conjunction with the Builders video, Firaxis also posted a blog post on automation.

Basically, they don't want players letting the game play itself and taking meaningful decisions from players. Exploration can still be automated, but it will stop when the unit discoveres something, especially goody huts.

We've gotten a few more videos in the last few weeks. I'll just leave a link to the playlist to reduce load times on this page: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 0-dawYWmkg

All of the Civs are going to be incredibly powerful in this game.

The Aztecs are again led by Montezuma, whose warrior unit can convert defeated enemies into builder units that have the unique ability to speed the construction of districts. Also, their unique luxuries can provide extra amenities and increase the fighting power of their units.

China gets builder units that can speed up the construction of ancient and classical era wonders, and they get extra progress from Eureka boosts.

Japan is well-constructed for island maps, with their districts gaining extra bonuses for being next to each other. Their units are also stronger when they fight near the coast or in shallow waters.

The press and some YouTubers got to play through 150 turns and can now share that content. I'll post some links of ones I think are pretty cool.

The Devs themselves played as Brazil.

Quill18 and Marbozir, who play a lot of single player are posting the gameplay in 30-40 minute chunks.

FilthyRobot, who plays a lot of multiplayer talked about his favorite feature (the civics) and important effects of changes.

Newest Civ is Scythia. I believe this is a first for Civilization. Led by Tomyris, a warrior queen from Antiquitity.

Spoiler: show

Bunch of other civs were revealed recently, including Greece and Rome. Here's a preview from Rock, Paper, Shotgun: LINK

Right now, I’m happy to say that Civ VI is a game that respects the time you spend with it. The gaps between important decisions have been reduced and that seems to be a driving factor in the entire design. Before moving to Firaxis, Ed Beach created complex historical boardgames and here we’re seeing how someone with that background builds a game when there’s a computer available to do the heavy-lifting and to keep track of a thousand different facts and figures. It’s an intricate, thoughtful and competitive game, built on lots of complicated intertwined systems. Cleverly, it hides its complications, not just behind a colourful and attractive aesthetic (and after spending so much time with it, I’m even more convinced that this is a beautiful game; look at that fog of war map design) but by keeping the machinery hidden. You can play, and win, without spending too much time looking at the numbers, but that doesn’t mean the game isn’t doing an awful lot of calculating in the background.
Almost every addition and change that has been made works to the player’s benefit. The splitting of tech into two separate trees means you’ll be making decisions much more often, and the cards that unlock and are used to build and alter your government are always there to play with. City States, the minor nations introduced in Civ V, require much less attention than previously. This is a game that respects your time, not just happy to have you take one more turn but eager to make that turn as meaningful and memorable as possible.

Civ and other 4x strategy games are notorious for having terribly over-complicated and unintuitive user interfaces. From what we've seen from Civ 6 it looks like it'll be a much more approachable game

To date I've played 167 hours of Empire: Total War and I have no idea how that happened

Christopher Lin is back and made the main menu for Civ 6. He made the main theme for Civ 4, which they recently performed with a live orchestra and choir.
