BRINK!

Thu Jan 20, 2011 1:00 am

Anyone else here who is as super-excited for this game as I am? Looking at these developer diaries I have good hope this is going to give a much needed freshing up to a genre grown horribly stale. It is still an FPS but with all kinds of great attributes: character customisation, innovative movement system (S.M.A.R.T.), a fun, not-take-yourself-so-damn-serious-CoD/Halo context and lot's of imaginative area's to play in.

Check out the developer films:

the movement in this game looks refreshing. I like the sliding motion. Please keep us up to date on news with this beauty ::bump::
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

8 player co-op vs bots
fully customiseable player avatars inc buff items
free running

sounds good to me might give this a look depending on reviews

they did doom 3 which rated well and return to castle wolfenstien, which was bit rubbish but won awards.

I may cancel my pre-order for Homefront for this. I want both pretty bad now, but I don't think I'll be able to get BRINK! until the price cools down. But I really want to DOOM themed stuff because I've been a DOOM fan since my dad first showed the original games to me.
I dunno... We'll just have to see.

I'd love to play this game if it turned out to be fluid enough and popular enough to make it a huge title. But I have seen (and played) so many games over the years that have boasted new features and game changing mechanics that didn't make it that I'm sceptical about new ones. I would still like to see new games like this be a hit because it changes the tried and tested formula that frankly, a lot of people are becoming bored with. Shadowrun is a case in point, it was a good formula that ran aground because they focused too much on the magic side and trying to make it "revolutionary" that they missed the biggest aspect of an FPS, the shooting, which was clunky and awkward. And these sorts of games that have had huge potential have missed the point so much that they have gone from a huge excitement to a massive disappointment. And in turn this makes these sorts of games less popular to the mainstream that the few good ones never get noticed, and thus don't get the popularity they deserve.

But I do hope something comes a long soon and changes the formula a bit, because I personally am fed up of watching people (myself included) playing Call of Duty 4 (which was a great addition to the series and the last fresh thing to happen in the call of duty series in my opinion) with a new name every year for the past 3 years.

Looks like a great game! Can't wait to try it ::thumbs::.

Good points James. It is sad to see a good, new idea not make it big because the game as a whole is mediocre or even fatally flawed, for example because of the shooting not feeling right. Still, looking at the videos of Brink available so far I'm inclined to hope the running and gunning will be pretty smooth and satisfying.

I suppose with a new IP like this they might release a demo first. We'll see if there is some good pwnage to be had in between all the wall-running, sliding and diving!

Well, from what I've seen the whole SMART system looks really just... Well smooth. The button is also a one push button, you don't have to hold it, so that obviously makes everything easier.

"hilarious"
"if you go near the objective we give you extra xp just for being there and looking handsome"

if it feels how he says it does it could be awesome.

Let's go! ::wheel::

If I hear any more intriguing news about this game I'm gonna have to pre-order it.

Since it's 8v8 only (?), I'd like to see vehicles, but that'd probably end up being too ambitious and ultimately dissapoint anyway, so I guess omitting them is for the best.
