View New Posts - Easy Forum Navigation

Sat Nov 22, 2008 8:52 pm

This is an item that I would like to bring to everybodys atention. After reading a post about people not reading the Announcements section (because it is not posted in very frequently) I came to the realization that many people do not know about the "View New Posts" option.

I overheard Starbucks mention that he was looking at the new posts a few weeks after I joined up with the Wheelmen. I thought that he was merely going through the forums like I did. However, upon closer inspection I found the option the "View New Posts." This option is located at the Board Index, right above where the list of the forums begin. It is a little hard to make out that it is actually there since the letters are a blueish color and the board background color as well. Insert sarcastic 'Thank You' from all the color blind people. There are three options at this location, and the "View New Posts" option is in the middle. once selected, this brings up all of the new posts (to a certain extent) starting with the most recent at the top and working in reverse chronological order down the list.

i use this option ALL THE TIME. I find it way easier to limit the information that I have already read. Since it took me a while to find it on my own, I wanted to pass along this little tidbit of very usefull information.

Thats the first button i look for when on a forum! Not having it would be very annoying...

Meh, I just look for the forums that have red icons next to them. I have plenty of time to read everything.

I'm going to bump this thread because it seems relevant.

At the top of this window under the User Control Panel you'll notice there are three options in blue: view unanswered posts, view new posts, and view active topics.

I'm aware that many people on this forum only visit The Pit, and the Halo forums, and it's why some people don't seem aware of stuff happening in the Image, Video, Blue, Announcement, War Room, and Ambassador forums.

I find that there is less info to sift through by using the View New Posts option. You only see what's new in relation to you, and you can choose what to read based on your interests, but at the very least you can see what's going on. I navigate the forums primarily through the view new posts function. I only go to the board index when I'm looking for something specific. It's a neat tool.

I don't use view unanswered posts very often, unless I'm curious. I sometimes use view active topics when all the new posts are gone because I signed out before reading some threads, or I just want to know what the forum thinks everyone is posting in.

I suggest you try using it for a few days if you've never used it before.

You're so funny Laughlyn.

Yes, the View New Posts buttons is still my primary tool to browse the forums. No matter if I have not been here for an hour or a week, I can still View New Posts to catch up on everything I have missed without gonig through the hassle of going to each individual forum.

The only reason I go through the Board Index is if I want to start a thread about something and cannot find a thread in the View New Posts in the same forum I want to start my new topic. I actually have a really hard time navigating through the Board Index sometimes. If something is not where I fiest expect it to be, it can get frustrating. In which case I use the Search option.

My bookmark for this site goes directly to view new posts. Anybody remember when it was broken for a couple weeks? It was almost unbearable.
