I agree Sarge. Not with just certain points but your entire thesis as a whole. I've ceased playing the Multiplayer as for me its just not any fun to me anymore. Im not going to sell it or anything as im collecting the entire series but im getting to the point of retiring my copy. I'll get on everyonce in a while and play a couple games to see if anything has really changed(most of the time it hasn't). I've gotten to the point that i dont even like the Halo 4 Forge. A while there a thought was going through my mind saying "Maybe i can make something interesting and fun" but the more i work with it the less results im obtaining. As of last Wednesday i pulled my Reach out and have been debating on a good time to throw it in. I just finished Borderlands Co-op and now seems like as good a time as any to throw it in and get a feel for the Reach controls again. If your ever gonna hop on Reach lemme know i dont have a problem joining in.

Some community maps are being added to the test hopper today and most of them are good a part from 1 or 2. So that might help on the map front, however the gametype is infinity slayer so that pretty much kills it.

from what I've read the maps will have various gametypes... Well specific to each map that is. I know it said something about one of them being SWAT, and another being CTF.

This might still not be why you were stating its a negative, but just to clarify, from the BS Angel Forum post it looks to mainly be Infinity Slayer with a few other gametypes added in if the group votes for them. I assume this will work very much like the DLC playlist.

Some of these are ridiculous, especially the DMR at 2:23. Magnetism has always been there, but this is too much. ::!::

Wow, I had no Idea that aim assist and bullet magnatism had THAT much of an effect. The DMR is absolutely rediculess, and I really hope BTB.net's gametypes, or something similar get made. I hate that gun.

Ok, now I know why everyone complains about the laser. Its the only weapon you actually have to aim...

You can actually see the sticky detonator grenade curve to the right. That's out of control.

This being a website about wheelmen and all, I'm a little curious to see what effect the bullet magnetism has on vehicles. I know sometimes I find the hit markers on my gauss shots to be suspect, not that I'm complaining though.

It has a much narrower projectile too, used to be the reason it was so deadly is because it had this massive death beam which in-game would have been 1-2 feet in diameter. Now it's much more narrow and I have multiple experiences of it failing me for just that reason. In fact me and another guy both went to CQB laser each other in dominion and we both missed so embarrassingly that I backed out of the base and we didn't fight any more.

The detached turret also clearly pulls to the right like its barrel is on crooked.

If there's any weapon that should have magnetism, it's the "Gauss"...

J/K, I want that thing toned down so I get rewarded for my shooting style with it. I take my time with the Gauss and make sure I have the shots lined up, I suspect if they decreased its user-friendliness I would still do just about as well as I do now but others would have to learn stuff. So I want them to make it harder to use so that I benefit.

Speaking for a moment on aim assist instead of bullet magnetism:

The aim assist has actually gotten me killed many times. 4-shots into one guy his teammate passes in front of him, dragging my reticule with him because the aim assist picks up the closest guy not the one I've been shooting. The one-shot guy I was about to kill has received a split second reprieve from my DMR, I'm dead with no kill thanks to aim assist. There has always been aim assist, but playing small maps against smart teams (Smart teams stick together in this game) or large maps against DMRs will give you a sense of the difference.

It obviously doesn't fail you like that MOST of the time (Although it IS killing you), but you can see it most easily when you don't want it. The result is weapons that are very easy to use. 5-shotting with the DMR is child's play. It used to be you really had to focus to get a 4-shot BR, but not anymore. Now anyone can do it, just like everything else.

Re: What Happened to the Halo That I Used to Know?

Sorry for the double post.

I'm posting again to note the difference between my observations and some of everyone else's.

Since there aren't a lot of people on a lot of the time, I end up playing alone a lot. In order to minimize the impact of this I play smaller playlists. In smaller playlists Halo 4's get-one-kill-then-die design is much MUCH more visible. If you are playing mostly BTB you will notice the impact of ordnance much more because ordnance makes a lot bigger difference in BTB. In smaller maps generally you don't get stupendous ordnance, you get things that give you a slight edge if even that. Generally ordnance is worth 1-2 kills in smaller maps. In BTB you get the best weapons in the game from ordnance drops. Well-played ordnance in BTB is worth 4-5 kills.

Things like the circular map design also impact the game much more in smaller playlists because often people can get where they need to go with one burst of sprint.

It occurred to me that some of our earlier disagreement about the source of the problems could be from simply focusing on different playlists. I would love to play more BTB but when I go in alone I'm looking at Exile due to my limited voting power and red team due to my bad luck. I've suffered incredibly in BTB searching alone or in small parties, so I search alone in smaller playlists where I feel like I can make a difference. In those playlists ordnance just isn't as big a deal. You occasionally get a sniper rifle, most of the time you're hoping for a power up or a shotgun.

My observations are therefore focused on 4v4 Halo 4 or close to it. BTB has a lot more variables, it still follows the same design but the size of the maps allows you to frequently ignore most of Halo 4's mistakes (Sitting without a shield for 6 seconds is a lot easier when you have all of a BTB map to hide in, it's a lot worse when you're in Haven [extremely popular map] and there's literally nowhere to go). Ordnance, vehicles, and teamwork make more of a difference in BTB.
