The next hwm retreat!

Sun Nov 07, 2010 8:00 pm

That's right, I'm not even home from dallas yet and I'm thinking about the next trip. (see zero's post about my "organization/thinking too much")

So far we've done vegas in june 09 and dallas in november 10. What do you guys think for our next get together? (sorry kids, but this is mostly for the age 21+ members) vegas was fun, but actually dull compared to dallas. I liked having the mlg event, but I honestly think we would have had just as much fun without it.

I think that the formula for success is to have such gatherings where there are things to do locally without that being an overbearing part of the trip, hence dallas>vegas.

I can get us suites almost any tourist destination in the country (except dallas apparently...fail). I'm looking for ideas for locations and a time frame about 8 months-a year from now for the next gathering. I would personally love to go west, but would like input.

Some initial thoughts...

1) Dallas november '11(obviously)
2) Orlando new years '11-12 (say what you want about it being for kids, new years at disney is epic)
3) Seattle june '11 (no reason, just a random western location... Oh right, home of bungie...)
4) Breckenridge (skiing) december '11
5) Mexico?
6) Mardi gras... (disaster waiting to happen, but what the hell, eh?)
7) beach trip (florida or cali)

I would LOVE for the next gathering to last a full week, that way the travel days at the beginning and end don't make the trip as short as this one.

Random, preliminary thoughts for now... Add your own!

You guys should come to Mardi Gras. It'd be awesome.

I love the thought, but maybe too soon for zero and yozi... Maybe a mid 2011 and an early mardi gras 2012?

Australia?....

I'll be looking to head to an MLG event next year, possibly Dallas '11. We'll have to wait and see.

While I would love to go somewhere like Germany for the next retreat, we have to be realistic in that we'll have the most participants if located within the continental United States. I know it sucks for you Euro's, but unless we can figure out how to get some major site revenue going, It just won't be feasible. :(

I would propose a non-MLG location. MLG was fun and all, but with a large group just wanting to hang out and get to know each other, an event kind of gets in the way. I would strongly encourage those near an MLG event to go meet some fellow wheelmen and allies (I'll make pertinent threads for them), but I think that a large gathering would be great at a normal tourist destination.

Again, my feelings may not echo those of everyone. This is a long way off, just feeling out the community at large.

Ski trip would be awesome.

Hit the slopes all day, then play xbox all night. Rinse and repeat.

I would LOVE a cruise, and I know I could get my wife on board, no pun intended. On the downside, cruise rooms are VERY small and I doubt we would be able to have any kind of large gaming set-up. If we ended up on a cruise, I it would be for drinking only :) I would also recommend taking a cruise in the middle of winter when it is cooler around the Caribbean.

This is where my suite reserving contact comes into play. I can get us a 2 bedroom suite the size of Vegas (almost twice the size of dallas) for a flat $100 per head for the stay, be it 4 days or a week (in theory). Cruises will be quite pricey compared to that. I'll get a tentative location for each of the above ideas, I figure if we can get at least a location set in stone 8 months in advance we can have plenty of time for people to get their vacations and finances in order.
