Thoughts on the new Map Pack?

Wed Dec 01, 2010 7:59 am

Personally I feel the Noble MapPack is well worth the price and I consider it to be one of the best map packs Bungie has created.

Like with everything there's a few minor issues but the design of the maps far outweighs this especially Tempest CTF and BreakPoint Invasion which has awesome aesthetics.
Anchor 9 is also has huge potential for a solid competitive 4vs4 map and Pit fans from Halo3 should enjoy this map as there's lots of features which are similar of the Pit.

So feel free to discuss the map pack and any basic tips and tricks.

So my question as someone who has strayed away from Halo Reach for the time being is: How is it? I really want this map pack to be good enough for me to come back to Halo because I loved Halo 3 and want Reach to be so good but it needs better maps frankly. Anyways everyones thoughts would be appreciated
i can speak in pretty colors
Spoiler: show
and its awesome

You know it!!! Josh hog 4 life!! lol

The new maps are good. Anchor 9 is a nice small symetrical map but, it's Tempest and Breakpoint that most of us should be interested in. Both are good hogging maps and are quite nice. This map pack is a good buy and I would recommend it to everyone.

I was really impressed with this map pack! Anchor 9 is fun but I'm not that into small maps lol. Tempest and Brakepoint are Awesome! Tempest is great for hard core Hog on Hog! ::hog:: I have only played Brakepoint 1 Flag but it was AMAZING!!! I love that there are so many ways to get from one base to the other! If you cordinate with your team mates and use the different paths through the map you can really flank the deffense on the flag and I personally think it makes for an extremly enjoyable game of 1 Flag which is something I was never sure I would say lol!

On a side note My recomendation is a deffinate BUY! One of the best map packs Bungie has made love the maps and I cant wait to see whats next!

I feel a lot of Standoff and Valhalla influences on Tempest. The central hill, a main mancannon and side mancannon, crashed longsword and waterfall draw a lot of aesthetic parallels to Valhalla. The large number of rocks and "DMR Line" that forms combined with each team's hog offers a lot of similar gameplay to Standoff. I think Tempest will really redefine BTB and it will act as a sort of homecoming to those that played it in H3.

So far I love all three of the maps very, very much. I love all of the things most of you love about the maps so I'm not gonna repeat it but I do love one more thing... Bungie didn't cut corners with these maps. The put oh so much detail in the maps, and made sure everything was great.

In Anchor 9 they asked the designer about these little tubes next to the doors that move in-and-out. Now while the conversation was funny, you gotta realize he could have just made them boring, empty holes. But instead... he chose to do something with them, just to add a tiny bit to the map.

Temptest, that big beam at that top... I love how if vehicles go through it or if a person goes through it, it'll EMP blast them. They also redid the rocks to look much more natural in the map. One of my biggest problem with forge world is that the rocks look nothing like the rocks you find on the map that you can't do anything with. They also just look terrible in general, and I HATE when people use them to make that rock wall on The Quarry.

Then finally for Breakpoint... The fact that they made the second part an assault is great for detail. It makes a bit more sense than the other invasion maps, and the gates/bridges that open are awesome. They also redid the bomb to look Covenant which fills me with joy.

I go CRAZY over tiny little details and such for all kinds of things. The fact that Bungie really paid attention to them for these three maps is just... well it's awesome.
You just read this incredibly tiny text for no good reason, and have nothing to show for it.

I've only played one matchmaking game on Tempest, but it was enough to hook me. I gunned for Jebus a couple of times, and saw some sweet hog-on-hog action. At one point, we were maneuvering around the downed Sabre while taking on the enemy hog. It disappeared over the hill, so we stayed on the defensive on Seaside. After a while, the hog came tearing back and started ripping into us. My driver was killed, and I was sitting driver-less in the tides near Dark-base. Somehow, the enemy hog (which was a decent distance away) flipped over itself and flew into the shallows in the middle of Seaside. I mopped them up, scanned the area for more hostiles, jumped out, drove to our base, and splattered a silly Blue that decided to jump in the middle of the No-man's land (akin to Standoff's "Laser Spawn"). Picked up my driver, and started wrecking some more scrubs. All in all a good game. I can't wait to get a full party on that map; 'twould be epic. ::hog::

Have yet to play on Breakpoint and Anchor 9 ( :( ) but I don't think I'll be disappointed. :D

I have really enjoyed running around on all the maps. As WatchGrassGrow said, the maps are incredibly visually pleasing. The gameplay has been fun, but one thing that has been frustrating me has been the dynamic spawns in slayer.

I hope the dynamic spawns are just for the DLC pack so people get a chance to see different parts of the map, because Tempest and Anchor 9 are symmetric maps. I can't figure out why these maps don't have locked spawns in slayer.

Other than that though, I love Tempest and Anchor 9.

However, Breakpoint is not fun in slayer. Spawning everywhere like Sandtrap has not been a blast for me. I would much rather play this game in Invasion like it was meant to.

Cruckeye drove me to a 29 spree on Tempest in one hog. We scored the 3rd flag before I could get 30 kills :[

Wow Bungie are such moneymaker ::cens:: ,since when is the mappack available? 2weeks? And you only can play like 3 playlists without it.After 1 Month i came back to Reach to play a bit and i only could play MLG ,FF and FF versus.Because of 3 maps wich even not compatible with every playlist....wow Bungie WTF?

Was this also in Halo 3 in the Beginning? When became the Heroic Mappack free?

According to the playlist page on Bungie.net only the Noble Map Pack playlist is DLC required. I think in the weekly update Bungie said something about there still being flashing text when you load up another playlist, but it is just telling you that the DLC is recommended, but you can still enter the playlist. I don't actually know whether this is true or not as I have the maps and don't get the message.

Yeah, its true. I was playing Big Team with a person in my party who didn't have the new maps. The text was flashing that someone didn't have it, but we could still play.

You must just not have noticed, Gorillars. Or something is broken for you.

ANyways, I've played 1 game each on the new maps. Invasion on breakpoint, headhunter on anchor 9 and snipers pro on tempest. I haven't played them enough to know anything aboot them. What i can say is that dynamic spawns make tempest a bad snipers map in my onion.

I've played some AMAZING games on Tempest. Duce said in game that "Standoff is back" but I wouldn't go quite that far. Tempest is a great looking map and it plays really well. Easily my new favorite map in Reach. I am not really a fan of the unpredictable spawns but overall, the maps are well worth the 10 bucks.
