Noble Map Pack - Gameplay

Anchor 9 is the smallest of the new maps, perfect for four-on-four team games or hardcore DMR showdowns. The hangar bay in the middle tends to attract all the action, and all of the bloodshed, so we recommend waiting on the outskirts, then swooping in for the kill when your opponents' have already weakened each other. Also, take some time to practice your reduced-gravity movement outside the ship… the physics for running, jumping and grenade-tossing feel drastically different.

Tempest is the Noble Pack's medium-sized map and takes place on a Halo ring, with all of the beautiful nature scenery that location implies: trees, cliffs, beaches, caves and a sparkling waterfall. Two Forerunner facilities – as well as man cannons and Warthogs – sit on either end, lending themselves to base-style matches like Capture the Flag and One Bomb. According to Bungie, Tempest is designed as an ideal Forge palette, too. Expect a crazy Rube Goldberg machine in 3, 2, 1…

Breakpoint is the largest new map, built primarily for Invasion battles. Breakpoint is also varied enough that every type of Halo: Reach player should find a favorite spot. If you're a sniper, there are a few rocky towers that can be climbed for fantastic vantage points. If you love the jetpack, this map has a ton of wide open vertical space. If you prefer close-quarters combat, there are also several hallways and tight corners to dominate. Breakpoint's biggest draw, however, will be the armada of vehicles that spawn in later waves. Warthogs, Ghosts, Banshees, Wraiths… at one point during our match, the Spartans had two Scorpions on their side at the same time. Fun.

:(

I really hope Bungie hasn't taken the general community approach to forging Invasion maps.....

After watching the gameplay I wish that Bungie let some half intelligent people play the maps in order to post gameplay. Not just some editor who has played about 3 hrs of Reach in total. /rant

It was Invasion Slayer so it's possible to get multiple tanks in that gametype. This is why I think Bungie are looking for beta testers from the community so they can select people that know how to play and have hand and eye coordination.

I like the look of Breakpoint. Looks like we'll be doing a lot more moving around.

I'm sure Bungie's playtesters vary in skill enough, I think where they fail is that they're fellow employees and playmates.

Those playtesters must like each other, or at least have to look each other in the face every day, because where they REALLY failed when they playtested Reach was not getting nasty enough. Playtesters should not only be of different skill levels, but should also vary their playstyle to account for the armies of d-bags that populate Matchmaking. Having played Reach, I now know that if I were hired as a playtester I would grief the f*** out of my fellow playtesters. They'd hate it, and I'd hate it, but Matchmaking would be better for it.

The problem is that people grief BECAUSE they don't have to look each other in the face. They grief BECAUSE we live in a time where it is ILLEGAL to just kick someone's ass. If you work with someone and play with them, not only will it be harder to grief, but you'll actually likely lose your job if you do grief them because of how MISERABLE it is to be on the receiving end of an overwhelming advantage. People would probably complain to the boss, or just BE the boss, and boom the best playTESTER loses their job. That would be OK if your job was anything other than playtesting. The work environment discourages productive work though.

PRODUCTIVE work in the "testing the weaknesses" businesses involves finding the weaknesses and hammering them until they break. A lot of "hackers" are professionals whose job involves enhancing security with the contributions of a criminal mind. Playtesters need to think like that, and when they find an exploitable option they need to try it to make sure it's as bad as possible, and then they need to say "we need to fix this."

i agree bloody, also map testing by people who made them is bad, they will play them how they are supposed to be played, not how they are going to be played, if your involved in designing a map its gonna be perfect for you when you consider it ready for testing, you cant see the bumps or the spelling mistakes because you are too close to it.

im looking forward to more hog on hog action!

I was watching the vidoc of Tempest today and they were just really bad players. Just randomly jetpacking and using the magnum as their primary. It was just terrible.

SO... what does everyone think? I haven't gotten the maps yet and I'm not sure when I will. I'm looking for some reviews and opinions. I'm sure all the maps are "great" but seeing as they are only playable as DLC and not in their intended playlists; Invasion, Arena, and BTB. Should I wait until they get phased in or should I rush out there RIGHT now and get 'em and play ALL NIGHT!?!?! RAGHT NAO!

Black Knight mentioned that some people had gotten to play Breakpoint in Invasion. That makes sense, because you can't play Invasion in the DLC playlist.

I posted up about my first impressions on Breakpoint after our walk around the map in the gametype and in forge. Link is in the sig to the post.

I haven't played the maps yet, but intend to tonight.

Personally, I think the new maps are awesome! Temptest is probably the closest thing to standoff we have in reach. Breakpoint is just plain fun, and it seems like it's fairly balanced. Anchor 9 is decent as well.

I would just like to say...THANK YOU BUNGIE! Finally some good maps! So far i think Tempest (valhalla 2.0) and Breakpoint (Sidewinder 3.0) will singlehandedly save Big Team. Anchor 9 was a lil confusing, but looks like a pretty and fun map to play on.
