Goodbye, BTB. Hello, Invasion.

Sun Nov 07, 2010 6:18 pm

As of this post, I no longer consider myself a BTB player. This playlist is not fun for me anymore. It's no one's fault exactly, but it just doesn't amuse me anymore. I am moving on to Invasion as my primary playlist. I will still play BTB occasionally if I want to drive hogs, or if a group bugs me enough, but don't expect me to stay for more than 2-5 games, if that many.

Why, Sarge?

Couple of reasons:
  1. Terrible maps: Spire and Boneyard do not belong in BTB, Countodwn is too small, Boardwalk is Cramped. Pineapple Atom
  2. Imbalance: Red team on Hemorrhage should always win. Blue team on Paradiso should always win.
  3. Stat padding: Snipers, Tanks, and Banshees are the only people who can enjoy BTB anymore. I am none of those.
  4. Objective failure: It's become so hard to score objectives, that parties don't even seem to push anymore.
  5. People: I just don't think I like dealing with 7 other personalities anymore.
  6. Teamwork: Reach BTB feels like the death of BTB teamwork for me. Feels like Lone Wolves.
  7. Voting: This playlist is Team Forge World. Tired of playing two maps that annoy me.

But why Invasion, Sarge? What's so awesome about it???

I'll explain:
  1. The Story! Invasion feels like a badass campaign mission on steroids.
  2. Battle buddies! It's such an awesome addition to the game. I love running in twos with someone else.
  3. Balance. Invasion feels winnable. It may be difficult, but it's doable.
  4. Teamwork! In Invasion, I get to experience teamwork with one other person like never before in Halo, and hear it from others.
  5. Fun! I just love it. The tier system makes each game into a hard-fought battle no matter who the opponent is.

So, yes, I will be moving to Invasion primarily. You're more than welcome to join me.

But what about the War Room, Sarge? What does that mean?

Good question. I will not be writing new BTB strategies from scratch, by myself, any time soon. You may not realize it, but coming up with these strategies I put together is extremely time-consuming and mentally taxing. It also causes me to become very irritable in games, because while I'm figuring out the game and analyzing things, I see gaps and holes that aren't being covered by other players, and it annoys me to no end. So, coming up with strategies in my head before I put them down on the site leads me to become quite the asshole in lobbies sometimes, and I end up bitching people out for things they aren't even aware of.

On top of that, I put a great deal of effort into the War Room, and sometimes I get burned out when it seems that a lot of work I do goes unnoticed.

Good news, though. I will finish out the Invasion strats (obviously, it's where my passion is now), and I will clean up whatever strategies others put forward. I will make sure the War Room stays clean and functional. However, I will not be writing anything further on BTB.

For those of you worried about the Hemorrhage strat. You are more than welcome to submit additions to the spoilers and continue discussing it. I will finish that strategy to completion, but others have to step up for it.

So, good luck in BTB. If you see my party at 6, don't expect me to add you for BTB.

Invasion, baby!!!

I actually agree with this, but I'm a wraith addict, so BTB is still fun, atleast hemorrhage is..

But yes, I love invasion. It's an ode to Battlefield for me, that's why I enjoy it soo much, 'cause Battlefield is probably the most fun game I've ever played.

I feel the exact same way sarge. I feel BTB lost its touch in Reach. Way too few maps makes the biggest let down for me. While I do enjoy the occasional Hemorrhage game, Invasion is so much more fun to me. It combines pretty much every element of the halo gametypes. You got territories to defend, cores to capture and the basic slaying that goes with that.

The only reason I don't like Invasion that much, is Invasion Slayer. It's always just... it's so terribly boring in my opinion. Normal Invasion rocks, Invasion Slayer makes me yawn.
Invasion Slayer on Paradiso makes me cry actually.

But I agree with all your points for BTB. It's extremely flawed, and needs a hell of a lot of work to bring it back up to Halo 3's BTB.
You just read this incredibly tiny text for no good reason, and have nothing to show for it.

I still enjoy Big Team, but I agree the Big Team maps do need some work (I'm looking at you Spire who puts the BFG Falcon so far away from the Red Team the Blue Team can actually get to it first).

Invasion is a fun playlist for me only when I have at least a 4 person team. I just don't feel like I can be successful as much with vehicles as I could in Big Team.

Or you could be awesome like me and play Halo 3, instead of Reach. :D

Invasion is a lot of fun especially on spire (having the long ranged weapon spartans on offense just works out a whole lot better. And it has a FALCON for epic measure) but really desperately short of maps for any real longevity.

As I said, crunch, when I play in large parties in BTB, all we play is Hemorrhage or Paradiso. Essentially, two maps. Though Invasion only has two maps for now, they're maps I enjoy.

Ha like Apathy I am a wraith addict too but i couldn't agree more about how much harder it is to play the objective in big team now. In fact when a flag game type comes up on hemorrhage I just think of it as 15 minutes of me wraith bombing the other team and really only push with the wraith when the team I am playing with calls upon me otherwise I play extremely defensively
i can speak in pretty colors
Spoiler: show
and its awesome

The wraith is amazing as an artillery thing in territories. And pretty awesomely campaign-like.

going in as a random: multi-team>big team>invasion
with a party: vice-versa

I agree. But after a couple of map packs i may resume big team.

I feel a similar dissatisfaction, but it's not tied to a specific playlist. Mostly I just feel terrible at Reach lately, and my best games feel like flukes. I get on for the challenges and then I just try to join friends. I spend most of my solo time in Team Snipers, since that weapon is at least consistent, but even that is spoiled by dozens upon dozens of matches in the Cage.

I'm sorry you're so dissatisfied with BTB, but I can see why. I hope you have a good time focusing on Invasion.

Thank you for the work you've done in the War Room.
