Cheapness...

Thu Oct 07, 2010 11:39 pm

Armor lock is cheap.

Spamming grenades is cheap.

Camping is cheap.

Double mele beatdowns are cheap.

If you are killed by something then it's cheap. This is a daily thing I hear. And when I suggest that maybe it's a tactic that's working it's dismissed as a bad idea.

You know what I hear in my head when a teammate complains about an enemy tactic or calls it cheap? I hear "I am not good enough to think of a way to counter this tactic, and too busy complaining about it to be useful."

Harsh? Yes. But I'm getting tired of listening to people complain about something that works. You know what I'm going to say when you call a tactic cheap? I'm going to say "It must be working, you should try it."

And I dare you to try all the things you think are cheap.

I agree. There is no point in not doing something that works. Dead is dead. Doesn't matter if you killed them by spamming grenades, or 5 shot them with the DMR. The result is the same.

Also, its cheap. :)

I agree as well. I have been known to use this excuse once or twice, but I know I shouldn't.

I always got angry with MW2 because there was always some way to kill me that I had virtually no control over. But in Halo Reach, I never really get the same feeling, mostly because you don't (well...invasion...) spawn with a weapon that can be classed as a power weapon.

Yeah, I second oboe, I'm getting sick and tired of all the raging because it's not Halo 3. Get over it, either you like it or you don't, and if you don't, stop playing it.... It's all balanced, if you know what your doing with AL, then good on you, otherwise your just delaying the inevitable.

and for nade spamming, go play COD....

Oboe, that is why I love teaming up with you. Just play the game and deal with the variables that are thrown at you. Yes, it can be frustrating when you get killed by the things that you are not used to, i.e. the running melleer or the unexpected armor lock, but this is still a NEW GAME and it takes time to develop successful strategies to deal with new variables. Just because they are not something you prefer using, does not mean that it is cheap.

Lol, I remember eventually in H3 I got a lot of satisfaction out of AR Rushing + Melee BECAUSE it was so "cheap" and it pissed people off so much. I preferred to BR, but that wasn't always a choice or the optimal choice, so I AR rushed with a smile on my face.

I get irritated with people who say Armor Lock is broken or jet packs are garbage because like you said Oboe, what they're saying is "I haven't tried it."

I personally have my greatest weaknesses in CQB. The sprinting pummeller gets lots of kills on me. Every time it happens a little rage bubble bursts in my chest (Before inflating) and I remind myself that I need to get better at dealing with threats that are in right in my face.

I will add on to Oboe's challenge a piece of advice: Be as cheap as possible, because pissing the enemy team off is a huge advantage. Whenever I'd end up playing against people who I know, I target the people who I know have bad tempers. I track them down across the map and ruin their day, because if they get pissed and start raging into their mics then their team's focus is shattered.

An angry enemy will assassinate you, not beat you down, because they want to rub it in your face. Assassinations take longer than beat downs and they're standing still the whole time.

They'll tea-bag you. Call them out and you'll get to watch them die on your death cam before you respawn.

They'll keep trying to kill YOU, and so you set up so that they can't possibly come out ahead if they keep going for your position.

Much of my behavior in this game (aside from what I say into a mic) is directed at making my enemy snap. When I can't do that, I re-focus on ruining their happy moments (End their spree, take their weapon, etc.).

It's pretty common knowledge that a foul temper serves no real purpose, make it serve YOUR purpose. People who get angry and rage about things in their mics KNOW it's not helping, so make sure it helps YOU.

Getting two rejections off a sword guy with AL and then having your team mate assasinate them is the best thing ever.

I don't care about most of this stuff in BTB/Invasion. However it's the competitive playlist which should be arena were somethings don't suit competitive play. ArmourLock for instance which slows down the pace of the game which is the case. I don't care if it's in Social Slayer.

One of the reasons I plan to get my fix from MLG.
Increased movement speed and lower gravity will add more flow to the game and grenades won't be nearly an issue as you will be able to get out of the blast radius faster.

If you have full shields and little health 1grenade will kill you. Something I don't like but it works in the larger playlist but not so much on the smaller maps.

Double beatdowns don't annoy me and I feel they work to an extent. The only thing I don't like is that someone with 100% shields that put enough shots into a guy to bring him down to 30% shields. If they both punch each other it's the same amount of damage. One of the reasons I avoid small maps but this dosen't usually happen in BTB/Invasion since the map is so large but in smaller maps I don't like it. I'll not even mention Spirnt + Hammer/Sowrd on small maps... Same with ArmourLock it's not really a problem in BTB as it's almost pointless.

Another map such as Reflection. JetPacks just kill the natural flow of this map and the gameplay. When everyone can use jetpacks at the start of the game the map dosen't play the way it wa intended. All the natural sight lines/power areas/natural ramps and so on get thrown out the window. One of main reasons Reflection has been a huge disappointment for some people. Instead having JetPacks as pickups will help resolve this.

That being said the playlist overlord is doing an awesome job refining some maps with more changes to come. I don't see myself playing anything other than BTB/Invasion and MLG.

Remember this was the same with Halo3 were various bits of equipment/weapons and the whole beatdown system was changed. The game isn't going to be "perfect" at the start. Expect more refinement.

You know what isn't cheap?
The legendary edition...

But in all seriousness now, the one thing I don't like is someone running around with a sword or a shotgun with Active Camo. Now it's a legitimate strategy, but when I hear someone go "Uh herp derp, I'm so good at this game." while they're doing that, it gets annoying.

::lol:: I love camo

And anything can be "cheap" with the right perspective. I get annoyed at armour lock all the time, but whenever the time comes and i have it equipped i forget i even have it and die.

Bought a budgie the other day for two euro.

Cheap.

OT, I agree. It's really annoying when people complain about stuff in-game. While I get annoyed as much as the next guy when my banshee is killed by someone coughing too loudly, I keep it to myself.

Sure, I'll complain when I get killed by something and I'm mad at myself for being killed by it. Armor Lock, grenades, camping, fine. I can work around those, but what I will complain about every time is being killed by a melee after I've already shot the guy in the head, especially if I got a bulltrue on a sword guy. To me, that is cheap and should never happen and I'm legitimately pissed off every time it happens.
