First Impressions?

So, I just wanted to hear particulars from people, things like "This map needs work on this" or "That gametype could use some tweaks on this map"...stuff of that nature. I'll start with:

The Cage: Broken spawns. Initial spawns are lopsided but not overly so. THEY can be overcome. Follow-up spawns, on the other hand, are just bad. For those who haven't played the map, The Cage is the map made by Bungie employees within Forge that is just hanging in mid-air. It has a large "Cage" in the middle (this is the more advantageous spawn), alot of walkways, and a small tower to the right and close to the cliff face (facing the cliff of course).

The spawn problem comes in when one team has people on top of the Cage (really only need one), somebody over in the tower (usually want two since it overlooks several spawns), and one by the mancannon landing point opposite the tower. If you have at least one person in all of these locals, there is nowhere for the enemy to spawn where they can't be in your sights on spawn. With DMR's, that means you have no chance of fighting your way out. There will always be at least two DMR's on you at the time of spawn, so no armour ability will get you out, and armour lock has as much chance to drop you teammates' shields as anything, and really only delays the inevitable. That is all for The Cage, at least that I had a chance to see (being on the recieving end on my first game there).

The Spire: TOO BIG!!! This cannot be exemplified enough. They could cut off half of the map and have a large BTB map...there is even something approaching a natural divider already there, but that just cuts half of the action off from the other half...unless the gametype is snipers.

BTB Snipers: Comes up far too often. In almost 10 hours of matchmaking, I played Multi-Flag once and 1-Flag twice...but snipers nearly a dozen times. WTF? Definitely needs a reduced weighting, since it seems to always get voted for if you don't roll with a full team that doesn't want snipers every game. I may like the new sniper, but not enough to play with it instead of some warthogs.

If your a halo 3 try hard with a modded controler and thinking your beast at what you do, you might wanna just stick with halo 3. In Halo reach, no modded controler will work with the DMR, aka the default BR. Its not a BR, its a DMR.

Also, You with a team that has an awsome host that always pwn newbs on Halo 3, Your host no longer is host. Host is spread out evenly throughout the game creating a GREAT in game experience. ITs fair on both sides. No more 3 second host advantage or watever it is.

I've only played campaign so far, and only a few missions of that. Love it so far, expect for the AI warthog gunning. They randomly stop shooting even when a target is in sight, and stop firing at the Ghost chasing us to kill a random Grunt. ::FP::
I buy books like some people buy shoes.

I just finished the campaign. Apart from heroic being harder than halo 2 on legendary (seriously, the yellow ones won't even drop their shields after a direct laser hit, and they'll survive 2 stickies.) it's totally epic.

It's just so much more... convincing than halo 3 was. If you remember the first outside bit at the storm, if you look really hard you'll notice a couple of hornets floating around not really doing anything... at all. Whereas in reach when you're at sword base for the second time in the tank and a couple of falcons drop in it's utter carnage on the screen. Brilliant.

Just finished the campaign as well, it was really good.
Surprisingly difficult on normal.
I'm really liking this game so far. Already addicted to the multiplayer.

I agree, normally i die once or twice on normal due to me not caring, but I died multiple times on this one. I wanna get a full party together to do heroic for the Chalenge, because I think I'll need it lol.

But as for my first impressions... I like the game overall. There are a few problems here and there, but none of them are things I won't get over in a couple days, or are things I know will get changed. (Such as the playlists)
I also want to say that the AIs for the game are absolutely amazing. The Noble Team ones are sometimes morons, but the Enemy AI make up for it entirely. (Except this one skirmisher... just look at my File Share.)
You just read this incredibly tiny text for no good reason, and have nothing to show for it.

Excited. I love this game. It is amazing. The space battles are so much fun. I never died in space.

Wishfull. I wish they would put space dogfights in matchmaking.

Annoyed. I too am annoyed at the AI gunners. It takes them 10 seconds to get in the hog. And then they don't shoot at stuff.

Thoughtful. The plasma pistol is quite possibly the best wepon for campaign. It kills everything. I killed a few hunters with it.

The scorpion tank is waaaay overpowered, whichever team wins the initial tank battle then just wrecks the other team.

I'm not enjoying 4v4 at all. Team Slayer annoyed me so much I went back to Mass Effect 2 for a while to get it out my system.

BTB is still fun.

We need to head into Invasion again, as I've enjoyed that.

Tank is incredibly dominant. It's also impossible to kill with one laser shot if it's undamaged.

Laser only has 4 shots :(

Unlike the center-dominance of Halo 3, the Reach maps seem more focused on attacking from the outer edges of the map.

New Warthog can take a few more punches, but it glides a lot, and bounces a lot. Gonna take a while to get the handles right.

Teamshooting is more important than it was in Halo 3. In a 2 v 1, the 2 almost always win.

Assists are hard to get. You have to do health damage to get an assist.

I cannot see the camo guy anymore. This is most frustrating.

Banshees go down quickly to team fire.

Hemorrhage is annoying. It takes forever to maneuver anywhere, but I see why people liked it.

Paradiso is fun, but we have to control the mountain with power weapons to get map control.

I don't like Boardwalk. I'm calling it BTB Narrows forever.

Boneyard and Spire should not be in two-sided gametypes (slayer, multiflag, stockpile, etc)

Headhunter is surprisingly tactical.

This is basically a stream of consciousness. I know there's no real order to it. I will make more in-depth posts later.

**NOTE** I'll start up discussion on specific maps Saturday night. By then everyone should have gotten some time in on them.

I going to have to agree with Sarge on a couple of those points, but others, I see differently. I personally have really gotten into playing BTB on Paradiso as it's one of my favorite maps at the moment. Like Sarge said, getting control of the top of the mountain and having most power weapons, you can pretty much dominate the other team.

I am yet to play with a party yet in any playlist, only because I don't have much time of an afternoon. But this weekend should see some BTB and Invasion parties rollin'. ::hog::
