Rusty Cage - First performed by Soundgarden/Covered by Johnny Cash

Soundarden Version:
Johnny Cash Version:

This is my all time favorite song by Johnny Cash! I heard the JC version first so a while back I looked up the original. When I listened to the Soundgarden original for the first time, honestly I hated it. I've gone back again to listen to it for this post and I will say I don't hate it now, however I still believe the Johnny Cash version is A LOT better. For Soundgarden I don't really like the grunge sound for it and the music doesn't really seem to stand out (or have a life of its own) like it does for Johnny Cash. The cover song is a lot more polished and organized than the original, I love the use of the acoustic guitar, and I especially love the breakdown towards the last half of the song.

Original song: 6/10
Cover song: 10/10

Linoleum, covered by Streetlight Manifesto
Original by NOFX

Streetlight's laid-back approach seems more suited to the lyrics. And honestly, Tomas Kalnoky kicks the ::cens:: out of the NOFX vocalist.

Edit- wait what!!!! Who is this guy here?!?!? Holy majoly it's wakka wakka!!! Ahhhh ::panic:: goodto see you around occasionally man!

Here's the Original, from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

And here's Metallica's (EPIC!!!) cover.

My only problem with Guitar Hero: Metallica is the fact that this song is not on it. (FAIL!!!)
