UNIQUE SHORT STORIES

---------------------------

So after talking with Sarge about the latest Mistborn book I wanted to make a thread for all things Brandon Sanderson because there is a lot to talk about, so feel to use this to talk about or discuss anything to do with the Cosmere and Sanderson.

The Cosmere books I have read are all the Mistborn books execept Bands of Mourning which I'm currently reading, Stormlight Archive, Steelheart, Elantris, Emperor's Soul and the three Wheel of Time books he wrote to finish the series. As I said before I'm reading the sixth Mistborn book Bands of Mourning at the moment and I'm still early in the book but enjoying it so far as it has intresting connections to the Csomere and more Steris because I really like her character and her growing relationship with Wax. I will probably move on to the Secret History after I've finished then wait for the third Stormlight book but hoping we don't have to wait long because Sanderson is writing sooo many series right now it's a mystery how he finishes anything.

Huge fan of Brandon Sanderson.

I think fantasy and science fiction got stuck in a rut for a long time, with fantasy in particular following a Tolkeinesque pattern for a long time.

Brandon brings so much new life to fantasy. He creates completely defined magic systems that permeate the world, following concrete rules. His characters make sensible decisions grounded in their experiences and the rules of the world. It creates absolutely enjoyable storytelling.

If you don't believe us, send me your email address and I'll send you a short novella and if you don't want to read any more after that, I'll let it go.

I'm about halfway through Bands of Mourning and I can easily say this is my favorite Wax and Wanye book and maybe my favorite Mistborn book period, the story and what it means to the cosmere as a hole has me very intrested seeing as a certain someone has appeared, visiting new locations on Scadrial and more learning more of the lore and history about the Lord Ruler and what may have come before. Finally the characters themselves are such fun to read as I've laughed quite a few times at Wanye's antics but the best scene for me so far has to be where they are all together at the hotel in New Seran because we see the different quirks each character has and how people who have just met them must think they are crazy.

I finished Bands of Mourning last night, thoroughly enjoyed it but the last few chapters and the end especially have left me with a few questions that I hope get answered in Secret History which I'm going to move onto straight away.

I finished Secret History last night and it's so intense that I won't speak about it here.

I know it's not related to the Cosmere but I've been reading Legion and I have to say I'm liking it so far, I like his interactions with his aspects and how when he wants to learn something new he has to create a new aspect but that has being causing him some problems so he's trying to ahve them double up on specialties. It reminds me a bit of The Emperor's Soul which I enjoyed quite alot and I've already finished the first book and I am a little over halfway on Skin Deep so as I said earlier enjoying it at the moment.

So I finished Skin Deep and I woudn't mind if him made it a proper series so we can explore more of his aspects and this mysterious Sandra but he has to finish Stormlight first.

While looking through Sazed's posts to see how many in a row say "Congrats", I noticed that this thread was about Brandon Sanderson books. I too like his books, but haven't read many of them. Only about 6 or 7. Sometime in the near future, I'm gonna start the way of kings series.

Do you have a problem with my reserved form of congratulating someone?

I do recommend Way of Kings and it's sequel but they long books so it will take up quite a bit of time to read but it's worth it in my opinion, highly enjoyable series. What are the other Sanderson books have you read and what were your thoughts?

I read the Mistborn books (first 3, are there more?) and The Alloy of Law, Elantris, a short book about a forger/thief person, forgot what it was called, and The Rithmatist.

The magic systems are really awesome in all of them. I especially liked the mixed fantasy/western theme of Alloy of Law. In case you don't know, its in the same world as Mistborn, but a few hundred years or something after the events of that trilogy.

I'm really enjoying the subtle exploration/takedown of the typical american hero story in Wax. He's the least interesting character in the gang, and yet he's the primary protagonist. I enjoyed Shadows of Self and Bands of Mourning. Very interested in seeing how Brandon finishes with these characters in the last book.

I somehow didn't notice there were additional books after the first 3 Mistborns -- I'll have to check it out. I'm currently waiting my turn for a copy of the latest Reckoners title from the library.
