Anyways here I am and I have the need to talk about metal and talking to my Wheelimans. It was August and the past 5 Weeks or so I attended 3 Festivals and I wanted to share music from bands I haven't known before, just started to listen to this year,seeing them live for the first time or some other special reason.
The festivals were "Baden in Blut" a smaller 1000 people,1 day fest in my near. Directly translated it means "Bathing in blood" but it's a wordplay on the region "Baden" I live in. The Wacken Open Air, still the biggest only metal music festival there is with around 75k people but whatever, weather was better than last year but because it's so big it can get really exhausting wandering through all this mud all the time. La(r)st but not least the Summerbreeze Open Air (also in Germany) with around 35k visitors.

Went to Baden in Blut more as a obligatory thing because it's so near and to support the scene but it had some surprises when it comes to bands.

This was the opener and it's a ...well underground band from a local city near me but they put out quite some good stuff.Probably best comparable to the sound of Dark Tranquility and Insomnium. (Found out there was an Band from India called the same *shrugs*)


Manegarm:
Fast Power/pagan metalish band . a bit like Ensiferum,just a bit.


The Ocean
It goes more into the progressive direction but it's a nice change for once and I enjoyed them live.


Hämatom
Saw them the 2nd time I think now. Sound was rather bad in the big tent and because it was so crowded I had more beer on me than I drank before then... . Hämatom is the rising star in german speaking countries when it comes to "germanrock"


Blue Öyster Cult
No Metal but good Hard Rock from the 70s & 80s. REALLY digging this band,it works as good mood music for me or I listen to it early mornings to get ready for work. It was probably a one of a kind opportunity to watch this band because they are in business for so long and who knows how many concerts they will do in the future. Sadly they also suffered from the bad sound in the big tent (the sound technicans should get some shit for this seriously,on such a big renowned festival you can't deliver such shit.) The sound was better right outside the tent in the mud and rain... ,you know made it worth it other than exprience such a classic band? Making out with a girl/woman (whatever you prefer to say) to the song "Burnin' for you", I can finally cross this off my list .


Iron Maiden
Finally got to see them live man I was hyped af.Despite alot people seem to disliked the performance I really liked it, maybe my impression was influenced by the Haype,the alcohol (was drunk af) and the woman on my site who needed some attention too . If you look at the facts this is the biggest and probably most influental Metalband there is. No matter how good other bands are, for me they rightfully sit on the throne on the metalolymp, sure some Albums are not as good as others but even the "bad" albums are better in terms of musiccraftmansship and songwriting than alot of other releases. The hype they receive is more rightfully than the one Slayer and Metallica get. Iron Maiden made like 10 milestones in their career and like all the 80s albums are Masterpieces followed by alot good albums in following years for example "Fear of the Dark" & "A matter of life and death". Metallica and Slayer never really could live up to their 80s/early 90s hype,released alot of mediocre stuff since the 2000s and still ride the wave of beeing Thrash metal pioneers. *takes a deep breath* lets go on with music shall we? haha

Equilibrium:
Was a good concert and I listened to half of it while shopping in a merchtent . Listened to less than half of it on Summerbreeze because the sound was shit. I really like the the album Sagas of them, the others are good but not as good IMO, not so fast etc. Ensiferum & Wintersun would be closest to this band. Vocals in german (screaming) though.


Testament
Man this show... I mean I knew the were a Thrash metal band with a long history and I listened to some songs before but we (I & one friend) went to see them at 1:30am in the morning! Damn one of the best shows I've been to, we got blasted away.


Arch Enemy
Never really listened to them at home but I saw them live 3 times on festivals now and they put on a hell of a show everytime. A female singer for a melodeath band is also rather unique.


Twisted Sister
I think most of everybody heard their name before because of songs like "We're not gonna take it" and "I wanna rock". We stood pretty far back but I don't regret going there.There were some drama going on in our little group that went together which I will remember more than the concert haha I got to admit I was on the winning end of it.


Lets go on with bands I watched on Summerbreeze but I will leave out Sabaton,Equilibrium and Slayer for obvious reasons.

Harakiri for the Sky
Went with a friend,didn't know them, found it okayish,stuido versions sound better so far . Their describtions on Youtube say: Genre: Post Black Metal / Theme: Depression, Suicide . That hits the nail on the head


Soilwork
One of the most known Melo-death bands from Sweden. I fell asleep on the infield halfway through their concert ... reason is before taht we played 4 hours long a drinking game and I had like 2.5-3 liters of beer intus and it was really warm,it suffered from the bad sound on the same stage as equilibrium a day before it.


Need to make a part 3 -__- , real life obligations call and time runs out.

Blues Pills
Blues/Psychedelic rock. Haven't listened into this band before but was pleasently surprised. Went to see it on behalf of someone else otherwise I would most likely skipped it. Really liked though, got the 60/70s vibe down.


Fear Factory
One of my big Highlight of that festival. Known them before but it seems my music taste grew enough into their direction to appreciate them now.They also used the sound system to the maximum.


Korpiklaani
Finnish folk metal that provides alot of drinking songs. Made a good show,well that's it. I was getting sober at that time :/


Mastodon
Those guys were my second highlight, just started to listen to them a few weeks earlier thanks to Asmund (What Name) and they put on a crazy show with sick music I was entirely happy with it. How to describe them? Progressive-Psychedelic most likely, sometimes clean vocals and sometimes harsher vocals.


Unearth
Started to listen to this band not so long ago. It's modern Metal that goes straight to your face, maybe a bit into the core direction but not to muchm Best comparable with Trivium.


My Dying Bride
Maybe not the greatest name in existence but it definetely fits the mood the bring over their music. it's melancholic Doom Metal which means it's slow but heavy. Relly sad music to be honest :'(


Grand Magus
They too are categorysized as Doom Metal but with a Heavy metal influence which comes more after Manowar or other classic metalbands just heavier. They are my third highlight. Great shit yo. While the concert was going on I had a laughflash/laughattack that lasted like 5-10 minutes, I can't remember right but I couldn't stop laughing. It was a mix between the behaviour of 2 friends,a crowdsurfer falling on his face (Schadenfreude),a guy in a suit with palmtrees on it,the stuff I talked with someone about,the thinking of the "true metal drinking gmae" and me beeing drunk (yes I was drunk every evening for five days and I don't regret it.)

I know you will be disappointed to hear that I chose Primordial over Katatonia but let me explain. In the tent,it rained & was cold,woman on my site, will go see them in october as compensation.
Yet another one that has the prefix Doom metal (I put them all together hehe). It's also more sad,thoughtful, depressing music but still strong and heavy.often listen to them when I'm in such a mood as listed before. Really enjoyed their performance even though to the end I was getting really cold due the rainy weather and wearing shorts.


Wolfheart
This band is the current project from the finnish mastermind Tuomas Saukkonen (damn I love finnish metal so much) . He also founded the band "Before the Dawn" which quickly became one of my favourite Melo-death bands so I thought it wouldn't hurt to check his current stuff out. Not bad but not essentially great either IMO. Since he had like 1 or 2 other bands too that made more or less the same style of music I have the feel he burned out. Still good Melo-death but I recommend to check "Before the Dawn" if you like Wolfheart.

Sonata Arctica isn't quite the type of music I was going for but they are AMAZING.

Wintersun is exactally the kind of music I was looking for.

Ensiferum isn't quite my style either. im not a big fan of the vocal style they use but the instrumental parts are great might try and find one of their tracks without vocals.

Hammerfell on the other hand ive been experiencing as of late due to it popping up on my Pandora ALOT.

And finally Dunderbeist is in the same category with Sonata Arcitca. Its not quite what I was looking for but they are still another great band that I will be listening to for a while.

Im trying to find folk metal. One ive discovered recently is Falconer. They have an amazing sound and great lyrics.

2016 is coming to an end and trent bend kent lend spend hand sent band land sand ... there were a bunch of good albums this year again.

I was at two concerts this week and will post my impressions now.
The "Your Heroes are dead" tour


On saturday I was at a Metal core concert, probably my least liked genre but I thought "lets give them a chance" and alot girls seem to like this style of metal too, i don't get it haha.

SOOOO I was at a System of a Down concert yesterday.(Zürich, Switerland) .It was Pineappling awesome, several thousand people there. There was so much energy in this stadium, Son Guko would have only needed one episode to channel his Genkidama.

For those who don't know the band, it's one of those Band from the early 2000s that are hard to put in any genre. I always count Slipknot and Disturbed to them too but it makes quite the charm that they are so different.

Their members are all children of armenian immigrents in Hollywood. Songs rangeing from complaing about hollywood douchebags, american Prisons, Sugar, horse that wants to be Jet pilot and social and government criticism on high level.

My Highlights were Aerials and Chop Suey.

Sitting here with beer and ready to talk about metal and Rock a bit.

I visited the biggest Heavy Metal festiva in France the Hellfest in Clisson . I only was there one day but it was checking out. it had 35°C nd almost no shadow available besides the Stage tents until 8pm.
The main beer was Kronenbourger, pretty good.
The main act I wanted to see was Blue Öyster Cult, a Blues-rock Band from the 70's and I wasn't disappointet. Such an awesome concert.


Pentagram was pretty good too and comes from the samme era


UFOMAMMUT was quite cool experience but I was not ready for what hit me.Heavy Doom, means it is rather slow and prominent bass. also kinda trippy because the few vocal lines are ...well, listen for yourself.


Five finger death punch. Known this Band for a few years now but the Singer has drug problems so a substitude had to come and it's just not the same.


Pastors of Muppets. Good shit

Other than these bands I listened a bit into here and there but nothing much.
