Not to get on the "Bowie just died - he was a musical genius" bandwagon, but those things did happen, and the timing of his final album ... I mean, who could plan it better? Anywho, Blackstar* is, to me, the culmination of the life of Major Tom. Since David Bowie (1969 album) took us on a Space Oddity with Major Tom leaping into the unknown, hoping his spaceship knew the way, there have been many stories he's told. His albums are all concept and complete, some better than others, but all uniquely him. This last album is the perfect bookend for a career that spanned over 50 years. The title song reminds me of a futuristic funeral procession. The entire album is dark, but when one's confronted with their own mortality, and whatnot, dark things happen. The album might be a bit heavy handed in some aspects, but it's worth a listen; especially:
