Muse Kicks Some Wheelmen Ass in Nashville

Tue Sep 10, 2013 2:42 am

Friday, September 6 Luv Gunn, Wheels, and I all enjoyed a fantastic concert in downtown Nashville. This is notable because I believe that other than Brick and Ivy going to shows together this is the first time Wheelmen have partied up for a show. IMO this concert was worth the 24 hours of driving I did for the weekend.

Cage The Elephant SETLIST HERE
Muse SETLIST HERE

Cage The Elephant opened. I enjoyed their set very much. Usually the opening bands bore or even annoy me (In recent years the Silver Sun Pickups, Dead Sara, and Interpol bored me / Marina & The Diamonds annoyed me tremendously / Snow Patrol was a solid opening act but not incredible) Their set was high energy, the crowd was into it, and the CTE vocalist was wild on stage.

Here was my favorite CTE song from the night. Video & Audio quality isn't the greatest...
Spoiler: show

Muse was fantastic as usual. I can't expect anything less than incredible from Muse and I was not disappointed Friday night. They played several of their best songs from recent albums. They also surprised me by playing a rarity I thought I'd NEVER hear live.

Neutron Star Collision is a favorite Muse song of mine. They also haven't played the song in 3 years and even then they only played it 9 times previously. So stoked to catch this song live.

They also debuted another song for the tour for us in Nashville.

Those are the best videos from the show I could find. Other highlights include the usually awesome Hysteria, Knights of Cydonia, The 2nd Law: Unsustainable, and Survival.

Wheels said afterwards that he had a new favorite not-Offspring live band. The show only reaffirmed for me why I'm so obsessed with Muse. I'd see them 100 times if I could afford it and enjoy every damn second of it. ::thumbs::

If any wheelmen happen to be in or around Denver next week (HINT! I'M LOOKING AT YOU BRICK!!!) you shouldn't miss this tour!

UPDATE: I found a couple more good videos from Friday night (you may want to turn the volume down a bit... but the sound quality is pretty good.
Spoiler: show

3rd times a charm. If I could afford it I'd see them every chance I could. Bonus this time for involving wheelmen. :D

Yes, poor Cowboy Mouth got knocked off my 'favorite live band' pedestal. This is their jaw dropping intro.
(4:00 in for beginning of song)

And yes Cage the Elephant had tons of energy. Here we see the singer trying to hold up a sign while crowdsurfing and being cheered on.
