Me too! I timed out reading the series perfectly so that I could start book 5 when it released. Finished book 4 the day before.

Book 3 is the best in the series I think, not done with 5 yet so I can't speak for that.

Special Effects showreels for the Emmy nomination. I didn't realize just how much CGI was in the show, (686 CGI shots), and it is all beautifully done. (I bought a blu-ray player the other day with the Game of Thrones blu ray in mind.)

My personal favorite CGI shot is all of the scenery at the Eyrie, and of course the dragons at the end.

During the last 24 hours, I have seen every episode. This show has stolen my sleep and chained me to the chair.
Waiting one whole year for next season will be a challenge. The cast is amazing, every single actor portrays their role so well. I completely agree with both Tyrion and Arya being freaking awesome.

However, regarding the books, I might actually get them. I havn't read a book in a long time, so maybe it is time. Do you guys recon I should read the first book too, or could I go on to the 2nd book from what I've seen in the show without much problem?

You know some of the major things. Don't think of it as "knowing what happens."

Think of it as learning "why everything happens."

Having read all 5, book #1 is my 2nd favorite in the series and I'll still say the book is better than the show though they compliment each other very well. You'll find that there is a lot more depth to some of the characters, (Catelyn is better, The Hound, and getting deeper inside Tyrion's head is also awesome). A lot of my favorite things about the book didn't make the show or weren't as good on film as they could have been (cut short, etc.). Some things are different... there was more to the battle where Jamie is captured and Ned's fight with Jamie in the streets is very different also - just a few examples.

In related news.... Last weekend it was announced that Game of Thrones won (deserved!) an Emmy for best title sequence.

They have 4 Emmy nominations up for grabs in the main event tomorrow including Best Show and Best Supporting Actor (Peter Dinklage as Tyrion). They were 1 for 7 in the technical nominations last week, I'm hoping they do better tomorrow.

also agree with Icebird. Having read all 5, you should toootally still read 1.
I hadn't read a book since early high school (12+yrs). Reading these books has really been enjoyable and felt like such an accomplishment.

IMO order of awesome!: 1st place (2 and 3 tied), 2nd place (1 and 5 tied), 3rd place (4)

Tyrion is prolly my fav character, followed by Jon and Arya... but there's so many char's and so much to love (even the things you hate... you love to hate!!)

read them all (and quickly!), you will thank us afterward.

Criporc's spoiler and mine below are safe if you've read the 2nd book and the beginning of the 3rd. (so you know it's safe Sarge :D)

Spoiler: show
It's not exactly like they have a track record of maintaining character appearance from the books. Tyrion is described as ugly, has a beard, 2 differently colored eyes, and walks with a wobble. Cersei & Jamie Lannister are described as being almost mirror images of each other. Jaqen H'gar has red hair on one half of his head and white on the other - rumor has it he will have black hair with a white streak in Season 2. My guess is they'll give Tyrion a big scar and take some of his nose. They can't mess too much with his good looks and charm, it is tv. Oh, and the woman they cast for Brienne doesn't look all that ugly in S2.

If I were a moderator.... or Louie... I would fix that spoiler tag. Just sayin'

And yes, Tyrion's story only gets better in books 2 & 3. He could possibly win a few years in a row. It's also possible he'd be nominated for Best Actor rather than Supporting Actor with his larger role.

And Louie, Tyrion is the best character in the series
Spoiler: show
