As far as scotch goes I find you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a good tasting bottle. Balvenie is one of my favorites to sell. It's a young 10 year single malt (though they do have 15 years and up) with a smooth flavor.

Knockando 12 year old

Drinkers include Josh, Haut, Josh's mum and Josh's cousin

Quite a gentle grassy whisky with a cereal character with a light and creamy texture.

Very nice with a box of chocolates.

Penderyn aur Cymru

Sun Feb 14, 2010 2:38 pm

Penderyn aur Cymru
(highest rated whisky in wales)

Zesty and Fresh, this malt is prickly fruity, and bitter sweet

i got the bitter sweet bit and it was almost sugary in flavour, but otherwise a nice whisky.

Aberlour a'bunadh (a-boon-ahh)
("the origin" in gaelic)
batch 28
59.7%

It has a sumptuous character of fruitcake and spice.

yummy clears the sinuses i definitely got the fruitcake rich and raisins malt. bite at the end dunno if this is the spice or the strength.

You really have to like whisky to like this one, it just fills your mouth with flavour after one tiny sip.

Also it seems to have cured my cold. Yay

Makers Mark

Tue Mar 02, 2010 3:18 pm

Makers Mark
Bourbon

tasters were Josh's Mum, Bob and Myself

more American stuff for born

A subtle, complex clean nose, with Vanilla and spice, a delicate floral notes of roses, plus lime and cocoa beans.
Medium in body, it offers a palate of fresh fruit, spices, eucalyptus, and ginger cake. The finish feature more spices, fresh oak with a hint of smoke, and a final flash of peach cheesecake.

I got the spice and the vanilla, definitely the cocoa (although initially combined with the vanilla tastes of coconut) ginger cake flavour is palatable and same with the peach at the end no cheese cake tho.

kinda got a menthol feel which is billed as Eucalyptus.....nice whisky.

Of all the bourbon's I have had, I always go with Maker's Mark personally. I am always sure to have a bottle when guests come over. I have bottles of both cheaper and much more expensive, and Maker's is always the first to get emptied... even without my help.

A variation on the Whisky discussion

Fri Mar 05, 2010 2:33 pm

So we broke from the norm and had something different - Armagnac (wine distilled into eau de vie [French for "water of life" or in other words, moonshine]) then this is placed in oak barrels for 10-12 years).

Vieil Armagnac XO (xtra ordinary) from the Chateau du Tariquet

It has a beautiful amalgamation of flavours of wood, vanilla and buttered toast

Its important to serve in a brandy glass so you can warm the Armagnac up in your hand (see above)
