Personally if you are going to build your own PC you should go all out, there is no point is doing a budget PC build when you can go out and spend an extra $50 to get a better PC from BestBuy.

Personally I think when you build your first PC you should build a monster because you will appreciate it more.

My Build: $2,250 (this is about a year and a half to 2 years ago I think, prices most likely have gone down for these parts)

Mohterboard: Asus Z-97 mark II
CPU - Intel Core i7 4770K (overclocked)
SSD - Intel 280 GB
HDD - 3TB
GPU - Geforce 980GTX (overclocked)
RAM - 16GB
Power Supply - SeaSonic 1200w
Liquid Cooler - Corsair H100igtx
Case - Define R4
6 Red LED fans
Asus Blu-ray/DVD/CD read and write
Cherry MX Keyboard
RAT 7 Gaming Mouse
Q series mouse mat
Windows 10 64bit (cause xbox play anywhere and it comes with mircosoft office)
1 Monitor at home and when I'm in my dorm I have a duel Monitor.
I have some weird little monitor thing that shows the Temp of my CPU

But yeah Sarge you should go crazy and plan your build around the future and not just the 'here and now' mentality. Custom PC builds are expensive and there is no point in doing a low budget build cause you'll just have to update the parts later.

I feel like I'm missing something on the list but I'm sure someone will point out if I missed something.

Hopes this helps Sarge!

Praise GabeN

In all seriousness though, I'm always going to be in this same boat and advocate building a monster but I've also built enough budget PCs to respect and understand the limits that you can stretch the hardware to. The PC we specced has a minimum of Intel 6th gen components because the truth of the matter is that someday sarge will want to upgrade again and going older is kinda like digging your wallet a grave. I'm sure we could pack in a bit more performance for the money by dipping into the high end components of yesteryear, but if you wanted to upgrade then the all the chipsets and sockets would be different and he would have to re-buy all of the pricey stuff like mobo, processor, and RAM. We're starting him off with decent budget stuff so he can have as much upgradability as possible, because even in 5 years the high end 6th gen stuff should still be able to pull its weight.

The rig that has been conceived in this thread is by no means a monster, but if his wallet permits, it can be someday.

Lexi. The purpose of the build is to create a budget PC so he can play Civilization 6 when it releases. Not play it in 5 years when he has 2 grand to blow on a computer.

And to anybody advocating for monster builds, SARGE DOESN'T EVEN LIKE USING DESKTOP COMPUTERS

How are you going to tell somebody that is only buying a computer out of pure necessity that they should spend a PINEAPPLE of money on it?
That's like going up to somebody asking which car they should get for the express purpose of going to and from work, and telling them to get a 35k Ford truck.

It's essentially in the very first post.

furthermore, if a monster build was an option the thread wouldn't be titled "Budget PC For Sarge's Civ Addiction"

Criporc likes this post.

Sarge, what have you done to Ducke?! He's usually such a sweet boy...

Also, has this computer been built yet? I am willing to partake in the giving of funds, if it is necessary still or something. Someone let me know.

I'm still waiting for spec requirements from Firaxis. I will bump at that point.

I appreciate the build, but the thread title and OP do indicate what the purpose of this build is and the parameters.

This build with Paragons card, 8GB Ram, and Windows 10 would total out around $465.

Just need someone to shuffle $75 into paypal account and I'll send the card to Jon. I recall a few people mentioning pitching in so I guess you guise just gotta figure out exactly how you want to handle it.

This game is slightly more demanding than I expected. Really wasn't expecting those recommended specs. Will it run with the current build? Yes. What will the framerate be with a slightly-higher-than-minimum build? Just not sure. Might need to tune those graphics settings a bit.

The GFX card is fine, falls only a bit below recommended. I might advise spending a little extra and leaping for a slightly stronger CPU. That build's CPU vs. the recommended averaged 53% slower clock and 29% slower quad-core fp and int speed.

Sarge never really struck me as the type of guy that cares a whole lot about frame rates and overall visual quality. Regardless, our processor choice is actually slightly better than it seems; The 6th gen i3 is more or less comparable to the 4th gen i5 and in many cases can outperform it. This rig will definitely run Civ6 at 60fps if we turn down some silly things like shadows and AA which usually go unnoticed by somebody that doesn't really seem to care about picking those things apart.

This is true, the processor only concerns me because they also demand a pretty decent graphics card as recommended. I'm just wondering how much of the CPU the game is intending on utilizing.

Regardless, this build will definitely be able to run the game.
